North Thoresby Primary Academy is an exceptional village primary academy with superb facilities offering a real family based traditional education.  North Thoresby Primary Academy became federated with Utterby Primary Academy during 2010.  Since becoming federated, the academy has welcomed new staff, a new curriculum and has seen a significant improvement in performance.  The academy has grown over the last 4 years with roll numbers more than doubling.

The school was originally built in 1985. There have been some significant refurbishment projects over the past four years including, restructuring of classrooms, remodelling of staff room, erection of boundary fence and refurbishment of pupil and staff toilets. We are currently discussing a project that would improve kitchen facilities for UIFSM and the new curriculum.

The academy is a small rural primary academy which caters for girls and boys aged four to eleven. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and forms a vital part of village life. The academy mainly serves the villages of North Thoresby, Grainsby and Waithe but children from the villages of Brigsley, Fulstow, Holton-le-Clay, and Ludborough also attend.

On entry the children display a wide range of attainment and there are significant variations from one year to another. The children come from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds. A significant percentage of pupils move to and from schools/academies other than at age four or eleven. As there are sometimes fewer than ten pupils in most year groups, the academy is not always required to publish its end of Key Stage results.

Upon leaving, pupils transfer to a range of secondary schools. The designated secondary school for our catchment area is The Toll Bar Buisness and Enterprise College at New Waltham in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. However other secondary schools which pupils transfer to are: The Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, Monk’s Dyke Technology College and Cordeaux Academy in Louth, and De Aston School in Market Rasen. Pupils can opt to take their 11+ in order to achieve a place at either King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth or Caistor Grammar School.

North Thoresby Primary Academy is principally a place where pupils, families, staff, governors and friends can learn together in partnership, in an atmosphere of co-operation. We promote attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility, and the ideal that every child has the right to be educated and to learn. In line with current national and local priorities we are including the Foundation Stage and writing in our School Improvement Plan.
