Barton Hill Academy is a larger than average sized primary school. Most pupils are of white British heritage and few speak English as an additional language. The proportion known to be eligible for Free School Meals is well above average.

This is clearly visible in academy by staff modelling expectations treating children and other adults with equal respect ensuring that the ethos is enabled to grow. The clarity of vision leads to clarity of purpose and pupils respond accordingly. The academy benefits from the drive of a wide group of staff which is communicated through the children who readily articulate their respect for this effort.
Clear leadership with a key number of staff working together through which developments are shared, enhanced, tested in practice and reviewed to assess impact. Systems are strengthened as a result of testing and adaptation to need. This process is evolutionary.
Learning is at the heart of whole school development. with significant work being undertaken to ensure that personalised learning are a reality for vulnerable pupil, with a differentiated approach being the aspiration for all learners.
The pupils are a credit to the academy . They are invariably polite happy to engage in detailed discussion of their own learning and their experiences through time at the academy. They are partners with in the academy, many given responsibility through the school council.
Academy staff at all levels are appraised of and share in, school development. There is considerable collective expertise with in the staff. They are supported by the management of the school, both within their work and with training appropriate to their needs.
Staff have expertise and qualifications of NPQH, Leading from The Middle, Leadership Pathways, Senior leadership courses, Teacher trainers for the Universities of Exeter, Plymouth and Nottingham and Specialist leaders of Education.
Every child does matter and inclusion is evident in all aspects of school life.
