As an academy, we aim to provide a happy, safe, and caring community, where everyone is encouraged and supported to achieve their goals. We are a very friendly academy, with enthusiastic and dedicated staff, which helps us to achieve our aims and goals.

St Helen’s Primary Academy is situated in Monk Bretton, 2 miles from Barnsley town centre. It was opened in 1963 as separate Junior and Infant schools and amalgamated in 1987. We serve a community with a mixture of local authority houses and privately owned property.  We currently have 19% of our children eligible for free school meals. There are 9 children with a statement of special educational needs and 41 children on the Special Needs register.

We have 9 classroom areas, a foundation unit, an ICT suite, library, Behaviour support room, two large halls that are used for dinners, assemblies and PE, and a range of offices.  Currently there are 288 pupils on register.  These are arranged into 4 Key Stage 2 classes, 3 Key Stage 1 classes, a separate Foundation1Unit and a foundation 2 unit.

Outside we have separate playgrounds for Key Stage 1 and 2, an enclosed outside play area for the foundation stage, a large playing field, a quiet area and parking facilities.

At St Helen’s we believe in providing a rich and varied curriculum that helps our pupils develop their full potential.  ‘to make our best better’ is our academy motto and providing a safe, happy environment where everyone is able to learn is our aim.  We are developing our expertise and curriculum to ensure it is exciting, challenging and relevant to pupils within school ensuring that we are continuing on the journey to become an Outstanding Academy.  The future at St Helen’s looks exciting and challenging, but we are ready to meet that challenge.  Are you ready to join us?
